New car park

Gift of land ends parking chaos

It’s hoped that blocked lanes and parking chaos at Clayhidon’s popular parish hall have been abolished with the creation of a new car park by the parish council.
The original car park in the former school playground has never been big enough to cope with peak demand on busy nights when there are live events at the hall.
Neighbouring farmers Russell and Caroline Bendle offered to put this right by donating a strip of their field to the council, which has spent around £4,000 removing a bank and laying hardcore and concrete. A quarter of this was provided by Devon County Council’s Localities Fund, and County Councillor Ray Radford came along to a parish council meeting on 17 July to see how the money had been spent
Richard Kallaway, Clayhidon’s chairman, believes over 20 extra cars can be accommodated. He gave a big thank you to Cllr Radford for helping to secure the funding and to everyone who had helped do the heavy work, especially Jamie Blackmore, Russell Bendle, Adrian Hay, Chris Houghton and Crudge Contractors
The work is not quite finished. This winter a new hedge will be planted.
