Clayhidon Parish Council, December 2011

District Council chair hears of Clayhidon concerns
DECEMBER 12 2011: CLAYHIDON PARISH COUNCIL REPORT by Sue Hay

Mrs Brenda Hull, chairperson of MDDC, was welcomed to the meeting. Mrs Hull has been a councillor for nine years and Chairperson since last May. There are 48 Parish Councils in Mid Devon and she is visiting as many as possible.

Mrs Hull described her role on MDDC and gave us an outline of how the Council was organised. She also listened to concerns of the council and parishioners about issues including the ‘affordable home’ and ‘Villages in Action’.

COUNCIL FIGHTS FOR AFFORDABLE HOME
The situation of the ‘affordable home’ will be considered by the planning committee in January or early February. The Parish council intend to be represented at this meeting. The developer has made an offer to pay £22,500 for the 106 agreement to be altered to enable the property to be sold on the open market.

The Parish Council strongly oppose an alteration to the 106 agreement as, having fought hard for an ‘affordable home’ in the parish; they do not want it to be lost. In addition the sum offered is far too small to enable the parish to support an alternative project.

CARAVAN APPLICATION OPPOSED
The other planning issue which was discussed was the retrospective application for the retention of a caravan at Ten Oakes and for the access road. This was not supported by the council.

SNOW WARDENS READY FOR THE WORST
The Snow Warden Scheme is progressing. Our Wardens have now been trained and our salt allocation delivered and safely stored. The Salt Bins in the Parish have also been filled. Owners of properties near each salt bin will be invited for a short training event in the Parish Hall. The most important message from the wardens is that very little salt is needed at one time; 1 shovel is sufficient for 300 yards of road. Please spread it carefully to avoid wastage.

JUBILEE BEACON PLANNED FOR JUNE 4
Plans for Clayhidon Jubilee Celebrations are progressing well. There will be one event on the evening of Monday June 4. Entertainment is planned for all the family and a beacon will be lit. There will be more details in due course but please put the date in your diary.

NEXT MEETING
The next Parish Council meeting will be on Monday February 13 in the Church Rooms at 7.30pm. These are open meetings. If you would like to know more of what is happening in the parish please join us.
