Clayhidon Parish Council, August 2014

News from Clayhidon Parish Council Meeting on 4 August 2014

SPEEDING TRAFFIC
The Parish Council discussed the problem of vehicles speeding through the Parish. This follows complaints from the landlady of the Half Moon Inn who has serious concerns about the speed at which many tractors pass the pub and the danger this poses.
However we also recognise that many cars and lorries also travel too fast along our narrow lanes and the Parish Council will ask the County Council for warning road signs to be placed on either side of this hamlet.

FUNDS SOUGHT FOR SHOWS
Each year Mid Devon District Council gives money from the Town and Parish (TAP) Fund. £1.10 is allocated for every elector in the Parish to be used on community issues of shared interest with neighbouring Parishes. This year we are applying to use the fund to support productions in the Parish Hall. These high quality productions are enjoyed by many in the community.

STRIMMER FOR FOOTPATH VOLUNTEERS
Since the County Council has reduced its budget for routine maintenance of our footpaths we have agreed to purchase a strimmer with the ‘Footpath Fund’. This will enable volunteers to clear overgrown paths each summer to make them more accessible for walkers.

FOOTPATH CHANGES PLANNED
The Definitive Map review of Public Rights of Way has reached the next stage. Devon County Council has a statutory obligation to carry out this review. There are proposals to change the status of some paths and you will find maps and information at each end of these routes. Responses to these suggestions must be submitted by 10 September. >Read more on this.

WANTED: EXPERT ADVICE ON BROADBAND ALTERNATIVES
We now know that Clayhidon is not going to be connected to highspeed broadband under the current rollout. As a result the Parish Council would like to explore alternative options. Are there any members of the Parish who have expertise in this area who would be prepared to give us advice?

EMAIL THE PARISH COUNCIL
Finally the Parish Council now has an email address;clayhidonparishcouncil@gmail.com

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be on Monday 13th October 2014 at 7.30pm in the Church Rooms.
