Clayhidon Parish Council, December 2014

News from Clayhidon Parish Council Meeting held on 8 December 2014.

FAST BROADBAND PROPOSAL FOR PARISH
The Parish Council have been investigating alternative ways of bringing faster broadband to the Parish. A company from Crewkerne called CFB solutions Ltd specialise in wi-fi broadband and this is already available in other Blackdown Hill’s parishes.
Further information can be found on their website here http://www.cfbbroadband.co.uk/ .
They will deliver 10mbps download and 5mbps upload speeds which is considerably faster than many Clayhidon residents are able to receive at present.
The wi-fi units, which sit on buildings, are relatively small.
The system works by line of sight so would require a network of buildings to receive the signal on the ridges and then to bounce it into the valleys.
If you are interested in finding out more about this, please contact the Parish Council. If there is sufficient interest we will invite CFB solutions to attend a Parish meeting to provide more information.

DIY POTHOLES SOLUTION WOULD BE HUGE BURDEN
The state of the Parish roads continues to be an issue. The County has now suggested that Parishes should become responsible for filling their own potholes!
This would be a huge task in Clayhidon, with so many miles of roads and raises other issues such as legal liability for the work of volunteers.

NO SPEED LIMIT FOR HALF MOON
We are not having any success with our application for a 20mph speed limit outside the Half Moon. The County have said that they are not prepared to consider the limit because there have been no accidents.

HOW YOU CAN HELP KEEP ROADS CLEAR
With the winter rains the ditches and drains have become blocked by leaves and silt. The result of this is obvious after heavy rain when the water is running down the roads instead of the ditches.
In the present economic climate, the County Council will not send anyone to help sort this out. The message from them is ‘self-help’ is the only way forward. If you are able to do so, please help by clearing the ditches and drain covers along your boundary.

BLACKDOWN PARISHES
The Chairman attended the November meeting of the Blackdown Parishes network. More information about this can be found here http://www.blackdownsonline.org.uk/

PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS
There will be Parish Council elections in May 2015. If you would like to find out more about the Parish Council then please join us at the next meeting. This will be on Monday 9th February at 7.30 in the Church Rooms.
