The Water Diviner

THE WATER DIVINER (15), Friday 13 November, 7.30pm (doors open 7.00pm)

Clayhidon Parish Hall

In the second of Clayhidon’s Movie Night trials, Moviola present  The Water Diviner, directed by and starring Russell Crowe and inspired by true events.

Following the Battle of Gallipoli, a widowed  farmer travels to Turkey to search of his three sons who are missing in action. On arrival in Constantinople he finds his questions blocked by military bureaucracy.

Aided by a beautiful hotel owner (Olga Kurylenko) and then by a Turkish war hero (Yilmaz Erdogan) who becomes an unlikely ally, Joshua heads across the shattered  landscape struggling to find his own peace and desperately holding on to hope.

The Guardian called this film a handsome crowd pleaser with a big heart, “a moral fable about the redemptive powers of forgiveness”.

The Telegraph said it was “a stirring, unpretentious account of an ordinary man's search for truth in the battlefields of Gallipoli” . Russell Crowe’s character was “one of the most ordinary men Crowe has ever played – not a leader, barely a hero”.

There will be a licensed bar, popcorn, ice cream and snacks.
